Do you include care in your training practice?

Hello extraordinary humans,

Coming in with a quick reflection to hopefully help you train, create, and move while the world spins madly on.

Is care a part of your training practice?

One of the most common (and first) things I build with clients is some form of care focused routine. Whether that is part of their warm up, their cool down or their everyday life.

Building care into the practice of my clients (and coaching them through the process of actually doing it) is a big part of my secret sauce.

It is at the core of how we do the big things without the burnout.

Care is integral to:

  • Performance
  • recovery
  • strength
  • endurance
  • big tricks
  • longevity

And so much more.

Ways care can show up in your training practice:

  • Listening (to yourself or to others)
  • Favorite exercises
  • Food
  • Fun
  • Structure so you don’t have to come up with what to do next
  • Support like coaching or training buddies
  • Nervous system work
  • Recovery routines/cool downs
  • Rest
  • Music
  • Friends
  • Games like add on

So if you have a spare 3 minutes, I’m extending an invitation to consider:

Where do you already have care in your training practice

Where you would like to try adding care in?

Feel like sharing? I’d love to hear your thoughts and ideas on care as a core part of training.

* This particular reflection was prompted by an amazing workshop I just took with Daniela Guerrero-Rodriguez. I highly recommend her work/content if you are a person who is struggling with burnout related to community care/activism or who simply wants to do more…somehow. Link to their profile

Hello extraordinary humans, Several weeks ago I did an IG Q&A and got this reply: “I tend to train either too much or too little…and always “forget” flexibility/hanging etc” I immediately flagged this as a response I knew warranted more than a quick reply and….well concussions are rough folks, so this reply took longer than I’d like haha! However, me and my brain cell have finally entered the chat so let’s talk through it because I think it is a feeling/problem that a lot of us can relate to....

Hello extraordinary humans, Today I want to talk through my EXACT process for selecting exercises/drills/skills and programming for both my students and myself! It’s a bit of read but it is a valuable one, especially if you are managing your own training and wondering WTF you “should” be doing. So, story time.. One of the first investments I made in my coaching was Pilates. I had already been using it as an artist for a few years and it was one of the first places where I got to experience...

Hello extraordinary humans, Happy new year everyone, I hope your holidays were pleasant and restful! I got the flu..which was not what we thought was going to happen but it just meant I celebrated a week later so I’m still eating holiday chocolate :) New Years is typically a time for goal setting and reflection and this year I wanted to share one of the latter, and something I have been reflecting on over the past month: What difficulty setting are you selecting? In life, in training, for a...
