Support for those shoulders and an August update

Hello extraordinary humans,

It’s been a while! My summer has been eyeball deep (very much pun intended) in visual and vestibular rehab. As you may recall, I sustained a concussion in October of last year. To say that I am tired of the process, is a vast understatement. However, I sit here, currently able to write this newsletter, equipped with tools to help me mange the work load and recover from it so that is something!

If you are also sidelined, put in a time out or otherwise slogging your way through the peaks and valleys of rehab, I see you, I feel you, it can really suck!

This summer of rehab is not what I thought I’d be doing but has lead to some really lovely experiences. I am home for the whole summer, something I haven’t had in….years. The last time was 2020 and well, that was not a great summer for anyone haha. I am enjoying my garden, my home, my people, my cats and the many wonderful new clients I have been able to work with.

From a coaching perspective, it’s been a summer of shoulders and recovery protocols. Two thing I NEVER get tired of teaching and designing. Finding what is restful and restorative for YOU is such a huge performance and quality of life enhancer. It is the ultimate hack and often ties into those troubled, tired shoulders.

So here is a quick mini series on some often unexplored strategies for your thorax, shoulders and neck (cause guess what..they are all related.) All you need is a yoga block and time :) The first exercise is my most given homework, it is also a great starting point for a recovery practice. The second 2 are not as restful but are extremely effectively at opening the upper chest and aiding in balancing muscle tone through the neck and shoulders.

Please reach out with any questions and yes, I do wear sunglasses indoors about 75% of the time.

I’d love to hear about what you are up to and if you have any queries on training, recovery, rehab or more feel free to hit reply or fill out my ask me anything form here

I am off to rest the eyeballs and the brain cell,

Until next time

Hello extraordinary humans, Coming in with a quick reflection to hopefully help you train, create, and move while the world spins madly on. Is care a part of your training practice? One of the most common (and first) things I build with clients is some form of care focused routine. Whether that is part of their warm up, their cool down or their everyday life. Building care into the practice of my clients (and coaching them through the process of actually doing it) is a big part of my secret...

Hello extraordinary humans, Several weeks ago I did an IG Q&A and got this reply: “I tend to train either too much or too little…and always “forget” flexibility/hanging etc” I immediately flagged this as a response I knew warranted more than a quick reply and….well concussions are rough folks, so this reply took longer than I’d like haha! However, me and my brain cell have finally entered the chat so let’s talk through it because I think it is a feeling/problem that a lot of us can relate to....

Hello extraordinary humans, Today I want to talk through my EXACT process for selecting exercises/drills/skills and programming for both my students and myself! It’s a bit of read but it is a valuable one, especially if you are managing your own training and wondering WTF you “should” be doing. So, story time.. One of the first investments I made in my coaching was Pilates. I had already been using it as an artist for a few years and it was one of the first places where I got to experience...
