Hello extraordinary humans,Let’s talk rest! So I popped a poll up on IG this weekend and the top tactic people wanted to learn about was what to do if you need to rest but can’t stop. And I completely understand why! First off, we are not taught to train in a holistic sense, many of us encounter the movement practices we love through the lens of hard work only. Secondly life is busy AF and especially if your practice is also your career it can be really hard to choose rest. So let’s get to what to do when you know you need rest and less but don’t feel like it’s possible. First things first: REST WILL NEVER HAPPEN ACCIDENTALLY It will always have to be a choice. Always. I’m sorry to say that (not really haha) but it’s the truth. The big, general answer to this problem is to learn to take responsibility around your relationship to, and choices involving rest. It’s ok to not want to, to feel like you can’t, and to sometimes truly not be able to. However there will always be ways to choose less work and more restful activities. And so with that note I give you this worksheet: Taking Radical Self Responsibility For Rest Please hit file, make a copy, I can’t grant you access. This is part of the upcoming workshop and is designed to help you discover when and how you can plan for a rest period and how to plan a deload phase to keep you moving more responsibly until you can take time off. (Deload phases are great ways to facilitate improved recovery while still working/training and if rest is not possible or really scary for you, they can be an excellent solution) Now, let’s all get intentional about rest! Hello extraordinary humans, Coming in with a quick reflection to hopefully help you train, create, and move while the world spins madly on. Is care a part of your training practice? One of the most common (and first) things I build with clients is some form of care focused routine. Whether that is part of their warm up, their cool down or their everyday life. Building care into the practice of my clients (and coaching them through the process of actually doing it) is a big part of my secret...
Hello extraordinary humans, Several weeks ago I did an IG Q&A and got this reply: “I tend to train either too much or too little…and always “forget” flexibility/hanging etc” I immediately flagged this as a response I knew warranted more than a quick reply and….well concussions are rough folks, so this reply took longer than I’d like haha! However, me and my brain cell have finally entered the chat so let’s talk through it because I think it is a feeling/problem that a lot of us can relate to....
Hello extraordinary humans, Today I want to talk through my EXACT process for selecting exercises/drills/skills and programming for both my students and myself! It’s a bit of read but it is a valuable one, especially if you are managing your own training and wondering WTF you “should” be doing. So, story time.. One of the first investments I made in my coaching was Pilates. I had already been using it as an artist for a few years and it was one of the first places where I got to experience...
